What Is A Certified Nurse Assistant?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s) are critical support staff for licensed nurses in many healthcare settings. Their essential duties provide personal care, activities of daily living support, ambulation assistance, medication administration, and health status monitoring to the patients under their care, ensuring their comfort and helping them to heal. These assistants may work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, transitional care centers, or assisted living facilities

Program Objective

Take a step into the selfless and rewarding career of nursing with our nursing assistant program. The goal of this course is to equip you with the competencies needed to obtain an entry-level position as a certified nursing assistant in any number of appropriate healthcare settings. You will be awarded with a Nurse Assistant Certificate upon satisfactory completion of all curricula.

A nurse assistant is a medical professional who is responsible for the whole-person care of the residents and patients in their healthcare facility.

A nurse assistant assists in the day-to-day care of residents and patients. This includes overseeing their vital signs, activities of daily living, nutritional needs, and the safety of their environment.

This program will equip graduates in basic nursing skills, personal care and hygiene skills, methods of specimen collection, ambulation assisting techniques, and standards for observing and reporting to immediate supervisors. Students also obtain knowledge in infection control, sharps handling, isolation methods, prevention of infections, and overall basic knowledge of body systems as well as common medical terminology. Graduates also learn the importance of promoting safety and independence and assisting with ADLs in long-term care.

Once you complete this course, you will receive the Nurse Assistant Certificate and will be prepared to seek related jobs in a healthcare setting.

In order to enroll, you must

  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Be at least 17 years of age.
  • Have proof of a GED or high school diploma.
  • Pass the Ability to Benefit Test in lieu of a high school diploma.
  • Pass the employee misconduct registry check (EMR).
  • Pass a drug screening.

CNA classes in Texas can vary in cost. Usually, you can expect to pay between $500 and $2,000 for the course. We focus on making your training affordable, with flexible financing, scholarships, and more.

CNA courses in Texas require at least 100 hours of training, including at least 40 hours of hands-on training in a clinical setting.
